Want your audience to stand inside the shot?

A flat film shows a place or a product from across the room. Apple Immersive Video films it in 8K 3D across 180 degrees for Apple Vision Pro, so it stands in front of the viewer with real depth and sound all round.

The idea Let customers see our new product before it exists

Two circular fisheye views of a wooden garden bar side by side, one for the left eye and one for the right.
One frame from a 180-degree stereoscopic camera: a circular image for each eye. In the headset the two become one scene with depth.

How much of the world it fills

The same scene filmed three ways and seen from above: how much each covers, what each eye sees and whether near things look near.

  • Flat video

A flat film is a window in the wall: it fills the part of the room you face, and both eyes see the same picture.

  • 360 video

360 video wraps one picture all the way round you, so you can look anywhere, but everything sits at the same distance.

  • Apple Immersive Video

Apple Immersive Video fills the 180 degrees in front of you with a separate view for each eye, so near things look near, and Spatial Audio places each sound where it happens.

What it is

Two lenses, one for each eye

The picture

An Apple Immersive Video camera records through two lenses set slightly apart, like your eyes, each capturing 180 degrees in 8K.

In Apple Vision Pro each eye sees only its own view. The brain combines the two, so people and objects have volume and the viewer feels they are in the place rather than watching it.

The sound

Spatial Audio is recorded with microphones that hear in every direction. In the mix each sound is placed where it comes from, so when the viewer turns their head it stays where it was, as it would in the room.

When it fits

Where being there changes the story

  • Entertainment

A front-row seat at a concert, a match or a play, wherever the viewer is, or a place inside the story with the characters.

  • Marketing

A behind-the-scenes look at your organisation, or a product at full depth, even one not built yet, added to the scene as a 3D model.

  • Education and training

Field trips to historic sites, and skilled work in medicine or engineering filmed from where the trainee would stand.

  • Travel and tourism

A destination or hotel seen in detail before the trip, and landmarks shown with recreations of how they once looked.

On the shoot

Every choice is made in three dimensions.

Immersive film needs a 3D stereoscopic workflow from start to finish. We plan for these differences with you before the shoot.

How an Apple Immersive Video production differs from a flat film
Part of the production Flat film Apple Immersive Video
The story Framed shot by shot, so the edit decides what people see. Designed for 180 degrees. The viewer chooses where to look, so the action is staged round them.
The camera One lens, reframed for each shot. A stereoscopic 8K camera with two lenses, set where the viewer will stand.
Light Lit for what is in frame. Lit in three dimensions, because almost nothing is out of shot.
Sound Mixed for speakers in front of the viewer. Spatial Audio from every direction, mixed to follow the viewer’s head.
Post-production Edit, grade and effects on one picture. Edit, grade and effects on two views at once, with very large 8K files.

How we work

From creative plan to a film in the headset

  1. Plan it for 180 degrees

We shape a creative plan with you for a view that surrounds the viewer: where the camera stands and what happens round it.

  2. Film in 8K 3D

Our crew runs the shoot with you, in the UK or abroad, on 8K stereoscopic cameras, recording Spatial Audio on location.

  3. Finish it in-house

Our team edits, colour grades, mixes the Spatial Audio and adds visual effects, going through each cut with you.

  4. Deliver and keep going

We deliver the film ready for Vision Pro with the versions you need, and stay on hand when you want to take it further.

What you receive

One master, with versions for everywhere else

Made for Vision Pro first, with every other version cut from the same master.

01 · The master

Ready for Apple Vision Pro

The edited, colour-graded film with its Spatial Audio mix, prepared for Vision Pro and ready for distribution.

  • 02 · A version

    For other headsets

For headsets such as Meta Quest 3, which give a good sense of the experience. The full quality is on Vision Pro.

  • 03 · A version

    For the web

A compressed file for your website, so people without a headset can still see the story.

Questions

Good to know

  • How is it different from 360 video?

360 video is usually one flat picture wrapped all the way round, the same for both eyes. Apple Immersive Video covers the 180 degrees in front in 3D, with a view for each eye, so it has depth.

  • Does it only play on Apple Vision Pro?

It is made for Vision Pro and looks best there. We can also supply versions for other headsets, such as Meta Quest 3, and for the web.

  • Can you add visual effects and 3D models?

Yes. We can composite 3D models, motion graphics and digital environments into the footage with you, at the same depth as everything else.

  • Can you film abroad?

Yes. We have filmed from the UK to China, and we plan the shoot with you wherever the story needs to be.
